Privacy Policy
FirstLook (firstlook.fyi) Effective date: 5/28/2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Firstlook.fyi ("FirstLook," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you visit firstlook.fyi, join our waitlist, or use the FirstLook mobile applications (together, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
- Waitlist: email address and, optionally, your role/title.
- Account: name, email address, password or sign-in credentials.
- Alert preferences: the filters you set — role types, seniority, salary floor, locations, remote preference, and excluded companies.
- Payment information: processed directly by our payment processor, Stripe. We receive subscription status and the last four digits/brand of your card, but never your full card number. Stripe's handling of your data is described in Stripe's privacy policy.
- Communications: anything you send to our support email.
Information collected automatically:
- Device and usage data: IP address, device type, operating system, app version, pages viewed, features used, and interaction timestamps.
- Push notification tokens: so we can deliver alerts to your device.
- Cookies and tracking pixels: see Section 4. This currently includes the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, which collects information about your visit to our website for advertising measurement and retargeting.
We do not collect your resume, application history, or any information about which jobs you apply to. Applying happens on employers' own systems.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide the Service: match roles to your filters and deliver alerts;
- Process subscriptions and payments, and manage founding-member pricing;
- Communicate with you about the Service, including waitlist status, product updates, and billing notices;
- Measure and improve the Service, including alert speed and coverage;
- Advertise the Service, including measuring ad performance and reaching people similar to our users (see Section 4);
- Detect and prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your email address or alert preferences to employers, recruiters, or data brokers.
3. How We Share Information
- Service providers: hosting, analytics, email delivery, push-notification infrastructure, and customer support tools, under contracts limiting their use of your data.
- Payment processing: Stripe.
- Advertising partners: Meta, and any other ad platforms we use, receive website interaction data via cookies/pixels as described in Section 4. Depending on your state's law, this sharing for cross-context advertising may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information; you can opt out (Section 6).
- Legal: if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to apply to previously collected data.
4. Cookies, Pixels, and Advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies, including:
- Essential cookies for site functionality and security;
- Analytics to understand usage;
- Meta Pixel and similar advertising pixels, which collect your device information and browsing actions on our site and share them with the ad platform to measure our ads and show you relevant ads elsewhere.
Your choices: You can opt out of cross-context behavioral advertising via the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link on our website, by adjusting cookie settings in our banner, through your browser settings, or via industry tools such as youradchoices.com. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law.
5. Data Retention
We keep waitlist and account data while your account is active or your waitlist entry is pending, and for a reasonable period afterward for legal, tax, and fraud-prevention purposes. You can request deletion at any time (Section 6). Billing records are retained as required by tax law.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live (including New Jersey, California, and other states with privacy laws, or the EEA/UK), you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your information;
- Opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale"/"sharing" of personal information;
- Portability of your data;
- Non-discrimination for exercising these rights.
To exercise any right, email firstlook.fyi@gmail.com with the request. We will verify your identity and respond within the time required by applicable law. If you are in the EEA/UK, our legal bases for processing are performance of contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (improving and marketing the Service), and consent (advertising cookies), and you may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
The Service is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. International Users
We are based in the United States and process data in the U.S. If you use the Service from outside the U.S., you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the revised version with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you by email or in-app before they take effect.
